Letter to the Community
Harry Weilage, Marshall Community Services Director.
I would like to be the first to welcome you to summer!
As we look forward to the opening of the Red Baron Arena & Expo, let me reminisce for a moment and recognize the incredible amount of volunteer time from citizens in our community that have dedicated time, effort and financial support to bring the vision of this facility and the MERIT Center to reality.
Your public officials have worked diligently to deliver the facilities that you voted to support in November 2012. Marshall now offers a place where our youth can continue to learn to drive safely, a site for Public Safety personnel training, and where firefighters can prepare for emergencies.
We have built a regional sports facility that reinforces the value of top-notch facilities that will attract families, students and customers to help improve and expand our retail, hotel and restaurant offerings.
The vision was to provide economic development in a rural setting that helps sustain our local and regional business while highlighting our community and Southwest Minnesota State University. The execution of this plan allows Marshall and surrounding communities a chance to enjoy, as well as sustain, the quality of life we cherish. We feel this plan positions Marshall to expand toward a population of 20,000 and the economic benefits that come with growth.
Please join us in promoting Marshall — “One of America’s Greatest Small Towns” — as a commitment to our young families and businesses.
This is my final letter as Marshall’s Community Services Director. It has been a privilege to serve our community for the past 35 years. I wish Marshall continued success.
